Jingchao Yang is a digital artist who engages critically with modern day ecological crises, particularly in the context of the effects of human activity on ecosystems. His practice explores the ever evolving relationship between nature and society through themes such as industrialisation, climate change and ecosystem destruction. He integrates live-action footage and virtual imagery to build narrative sequences, and partners these visual environments with evocative soundscapes creating fully immersive experiences. His visual environments bridge the gap between documenting reality and constructing digital settings, effectively employing contemporary environmental events and footage alongside projected ecological consequences in his critiques. Locations such as forests, seas, meadows and mountains frequently appear in his works as microcosmic expressions of wider global issues. Moving beyond solely documentation and into the realm of criticism, creation and future speculation Yang uses real world inspirations to examine the most pressing ecological crises of our modern day.
